The ever famous Porsche 911 is a truly iconic car. The car has been in the family for 55 years now, and there will be a new model soon. To celebrate this years new model, Porsche Design has created a special watch named the 911 Chronograph Timeless. It is a limited edition watch, and many of us car lovers are very excited about it. The 911 is a car that has seen many changes over the years. At one time it was air cooled, and then became water cooled. It has hydraulic steering at one time, and then was given electro mechanical steering. However the overall design of the car has remained the same. The idea is to keep the vintage good looks, but to do mechanical upgrades that help the car to be modern, and perform as well as other newer concepts of automobiles.
The new Porsche watch is a tribute to the 911 car, and offers many interesting perks, but first i will point out that the watch comes with a 42 millimeter diameter to its bead blasted titanium case. The titanium is why the watch has its cool matte look. The watch also bears the signature Porsche Design cut out lugs and its integrated strap. The strap is made of the leather that is used in 911 cars. That is a super cool feature that the car lovers will appreciate. As for the thickness of the case, it is 14.9 millimeters, but that is needed to allow for the Valjoux 7750 movement. This is a sports chronograph, and a large watch it must be. The water resistance is to 100 meters of depth, and is safe for rain, splashes, and a light swim.
The dial is a cool black having grey and white accents. The minutes have been marked with white on the dial, and the watch has standard baton like hour and minute hands. The hand for the central chronograph seconds is red, and like most Valjoux chronographs, the 30 minute counter is at the 12 o’clock, with the 12 hour counter being at the 6 o’clock. Both counters have sword shaped hands, having bright red tips. At the 9 o’clock, there is a small cut out featuring a rotating indicator which says Timeless Machine. This is surely an attempt to draw attention to the 911 car, and that is the theme of the watch. At the 3 o’clock there is the Porche Design logo, and a silhouette of a 911 car. Then at the 4 o’clock there is a date window.
The movement beats at 4Hz, and offers a power reserve of 48 hours. This watch is limited to 911 pieces, and is priced to sell at $6,911. A very cool price in honor of a very cool car, and more information is available at porsche-design.com.
