2018 marked the 20th anniversary of Chopard having its partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. So to honer and celebrate that 20 year relationship, the company decided to present a new model of watch to mark the occasion. The new watch is based on the time only, very thin, L.U.C. This gave way to the L.U.C XPS 1860.

It is the Red Carpet Edition, and it is quite beautiful. With this edition, Chopard added some sweet glamour to one of its already signature timepieces. This particular version was released in 2016, and was based on the dress watch having small seconds counters, and first being based on the L.U.C that was launched in 1996.

This watch was the very first for the company that was 100% produced in house, including the movement. This timepiece is the epitome of Tuxedo watches, and was the perfect base from which to further create the Red Carpet Edition. The case was done in 18k gold, and measured in at 40 millimeters in diameter, and 7.2 millimeters in height.

This is crucial because tuxedo watches must slide under cuffs with ease. The dial is done in red carper red, and the hour indices are baguette cut diamonds. The hour and minute hands are Dauphine style, and that is quite typical of Chopard. Powering the watch is the Chopard Red Carpet is the calibre L.U.C 96.01-L, which is the same movement used in the original L.U.C made back in 1996.

It measures 3.3 millimeters in thickness, and is a very precise time keeper certified by the COSC.
The watch was made with the red carpet in mind. Part of the beauty of this watch is that only ten pieces were made. This is sure to become a collector’s item, and i believe it will clock some dollars in the future during inevitable auction periods. We will just have to wait and see.
