The Reverso watch is a true classic. The watch was born in 1931, and has been done in many different variations. During 2017, Jaeger-LeCoultre created a new version to release in 2018. It was a Reverso Douface well done in pink gold, and the strap was done in leather by the famed Argentinian Polo boot making firm Casa Fagliano. When we consider that the Reverso was born out of the needs of Polo Players, choosing Casa Fagliano was brilliant. The watch is a true icon. It was launched in 1931 to give Polo players a watch capable of having its face protected during the heat of a match.
The idea of a reversible watch case caught on quickly, and the Reverso was a big hit. When looking at a standard Reverso, the rear side of the case is used to reflect a personal engraving as well as some content regarding the mechanics of the watch, but later on the firm created watches that could be worn using either face. That is why this new watch refers to the term Duoface. The great thing about the main side of this Reverso is that the only thing you can see is the time of day. The hands are dauphine for the hours and the minutes, and then a small second hand sub dial at the 6 o’clock.
The watch is housed inside a very warm pink gold case, and it measures in at 49.4 millimeters long and 29.9 millimeters wide. Thes numbers make this version of the Reverso, the firm’s largest to date. The second face offers a second time zone as well as a 24 hour day or night indicator. The second face has a dial done in silver, and has a dual finish to it. The watch is powered by the caliber 854A/2 movement, and has 167 components in it. The movement offers a 42 hour power reserve, and was made completely in house. The firm is quite proud of this, and is a leader in the making of movements.
As i eluded to earlier, one of the brilliant attraction for this watch, is the strap. This is an amazing partnering up of an legendary watch firm, and a legendary boot making firm. Case Fagliano has done a wonderful hand made strap for each timepiece, and it is done in a soft brown color for one side, and a darker brown on the other. The strap offers a very vintage look to the watch, and i cannot think of a better leather artisan to have been used. This watch was a 100 piece limited run, and they were sold from the Boutiques only. The price was about $24,000, or EUR 21,000.
